Tackling the challenge of aquascaping a 55-gallon planted aquarium
Let's face it, the standard 55-gallon aquarium has difficult dimensions to create the beautiful aquascape many aquarium keepers want. In this video, I share my attempt to create a planted aquarium that goes from open rocks or iwagumi style to a densely planted section. I show how I tried to merge two different styles, giving fish a choice of being out in the open or hiding, while also making an aquarium design that is enjoyable to watch. In this video, I show you how I decided to strategically use rocks and driftwood for my hardscape before adding plants and then fish as well as Amano shrimp. I will take you step by step through he planting process while explaining the look I was hoping t...

How to make a Nature Aquarium.
Просмотров 8205 месяцев назад
How I made a beautiful planted aquarium using dragon stone, a wide variety of plants, and three kinds of substrate. In this video, I show you how I went step-by-step from planning to planting and fish selection. I'm no pro, but I've been keeping fish for decades. This was my first stab at nature style tank, and I'm pretty happy with the results. #natureaquarium #plantedtank #plantedaquarium #dr...

Massive Corals for a massive aquarium! | Episode 222
Просмотров 502Год назад
In this Fincast, (better known as an aquarium video) I show you what it takes to try and fill a huge aquarium with corals. The fish tank is big enough that it takes a diver to do the work! This aquarium is a part of the atrium display at Center in the Square in Roanoke, Va., where the team from Carlin Aquarium Systems is upgrading the 10-year-old reef with new rockwork, and of course more coral...
Upgrading a nearly 10 year old, 8,000 gallon reef | Episode 221

There are big reef aquariums and then there are the ones you dive in. And for this project, the team at Carlin Aquarium Systems really got our feet wet! Watch as we dismantle parts of the nearly 10-year-old reef and add on nearly a whole palette of live rock to give the fish and corals a new home and the public something new to look at.

My 180 Reef system started leaking on the hardwood floor and the only way to fix it was to take it all down. If there is ever a time to upgrade, it's now! So I added a better stand and a Trigger Systems Platinum sump with a fleece roller system. AND... I had to save three massive coral colonies along the way as well as smaller corals and of course the fish. It made for an epic day of aquarium k...

My 180-gallon reef tank sprang a leak. It's time to take it down and fix the problem. But that creates another issue. Do I keep my damselfish, or now that I can catch them is it time to say goodbye. I've become attached to them in an odd kind of way even though they are terrors and make it impossible ti introduce new fish. What would you do?
Avoid the Terror! Introduce fish to a tank and avoid the aggression! | Episode 218

The Peacemaker is a way to put fish in an aquarium without them being chased into corners by the fish already in the tank. It’s a clear acrylic box that allows the new fish to live in the tank for days or longer so they can get used to the water and the fish already living in the aquarium can get used to them. Upon release, the new fish will not suffer the aggression typically associated with t...
Low Tech Saltwater Invert Tank | Episode 217

Can you keep a basic saltwater aquarium with just a kit from Wal-Mart or another big box store. Yes! In this video I go through my goal of having an invert focused tank set up in a 29 gallon box set. Using a basic hang on back filter, a bit of live rock, some dry rock and some patience, I've been able to stock the aquarium with some cool saltwater stuff including some awesome fish.
A planted Tank Discus Project | Episode 216

Some people build their aquarium around discus. I went the other way. My discus were added to a well-established planted aquarium. There were already fish living happily in the tank, and for the most part, I just left them. That included a pair of Leulupi, which don't live in planted tanks and do not live with discus. But they do here! Hear me out on this one. In this video I talk about adding ...

The Fincasters Coral reef needed a bit of love. The original design began to show its flaws as I started looking for more places for coral. So... I dove in and undid what I had originally loved! The new design is a bit spare right now, but it’s a start. The original design was intended to favor the fish over corals. But over time, my need to plant more corals won out. Shell Dwellers are great little cichlids. I set up an aquarium for gold ocellatus and added a few leleupi to add some color. Lamprologus Ocellatus are known for being fun and feisty little cichlids that defend their shells even though they are tiny compared to most fish. They come from Lake Tanganyika in Africa and are found throughout the lake. The Leleupi (Neolamprologus leleupi) are a torped...

Just bought one yesterday. One of my favorite fish along with the checkered rainbowfish, guppies, black emperor tetras, and the pearl gourami. The Threadfin really likes to hang out with the scissortail rasboras. What is the fish in the bottom left corner at 7:33? Some kind of tetra?

Picked up 6 full size have been keeping them in 10G while i am letting the plant shrimp population flourish for awhile in a 90 G. Very beautiful and always hungry. Feeding sera flake, live maquito larva, scuds, BBB, frozen live foods. Half the time i feed flake. PH 7.2 . They are not to picky on water conditions and are very fast. So in a big aquarium with big Cory catfish. I might try to breed but the price is reasonable. Anyone any luck breeding?

To me a lot of mucking around. I just get wood and broken down leaves from my local pond throw them in a container with dechlorinated water and my aquarium is done and balanced in a week. Don't buy what's free, and don't waste time placing crap. Each to their own I suppose. I get he tannin look dark and sometimes light depending on the leaves and wood.

My brass tetras glow almost snow white on top! Cameras just cant capture what the baked eye sees. The white on top glows/pops much like that beautiful blue stripe of a neon tetra. They are somewhat pricey here, at 7 dollars each, especially once you get whatcha need for a "school" of um. But they're worth it. Active & fun to watch. My 55g is full of nanos, thats all thats in there.. i love watching all the different colors of my schools of nanos❤
